Johnson Residence – Slope Stability Analysis
- Location 4460 Barkoskie Road, Jacksonville, FL (Duval County)
- Owner Patrick Johnson
- Markets Residential, Geotechnical Engineering, Slope Stability
- Services Geotechnical Exploration, Slope Stability Analysis, Earthwork & Fill Recommendations
Project Description
NicNevol Engineering Services conducted a geotechnical exploration and slope stability evaluation for a residential property on Barkoskie Road in Jacksonville, FL. The site included steep grassy slopes surrounding the home that were experiencing erosion and instability during rainfall events. The study aimed to identify corrective measures to improve slope stability and reduce erosion impacts.
Field work included establishing 16 measurement points and mapping 15 slope sections to evaluate the volume of fill required to reduce slope angles. Engineering calculations determined the horizontal extensions needed to achieve a maximum 10° slope, ensuring safer drainage and erosion control. Recommendations were developed for fill placement, compaction, and long-term stability performance.
NicNevol Responsibilities
- Performing field slope measurements and mapping of critical sections.
- Calculating fill requirements and slope extension distances.
- Providing recommendations for slope regrading and compaction criteria.
- Advising on groundwater and surface water control measures.
- Preparing the geotechnical report with slope stabilization parameters.
- Supporting the contractor during planning and construction phases.
Project Highlights
- 16 measurement points and 15 slope sections mapped for analysis.
- Fill extensions ranging from 0–3 ft (west/south sides) to 14.5 ft (east side).
- Target slope: max 10° (≈ 17.6%) for stability and reduced erosion.
- Compaction criteria 100% Standard Proctor and drainage control measures recommended.
- Enhanced slope safety and erosion resilience for residential site.
