Project Description

NicNevol partnered with FDOT District Two on the mill and resurface of SR 49 (US 129), a vital north–south corridor serving Gilchrist County. The project limits spanned from STA 145+02.46 to STA 673+03.24, rehabilitating nearly 10 miles of roadway to improve safety, durability, and ride quality.

The scope of work included milling existing asphalt (½ in. to 4 in.), placement of new asphalt layers consisting of Type SP structural course (≈ 2.5 in.) and FC-12.5 friction course (≈ 1.5 in., PG 76-22), shoulder reconstruction, driveway stabilization, and regrading for proper drainage. Temporary MOT, upgraded signing, and full pavement marking replacements were implemented, along with erosion and sediment controls such as inlet protection and silt barriers.

Close coordination with the community and nearby schools in Bell and Trenton was essential to minimize disruptions during standardized testing periods. The improved corridor provides smoother rideability, enhanced skid resistance, and long-term performance designed to accommodate projected traffic volumes of up to 9,200 vehicles per day by 2040.
