Project Description

NicNevol Engineering Services performed a geotechnical exploration for a proposed single-family residence at 226 River Hills Drive, along Pottsburg Creek in Jacksonville, FL. The study evaluated subsurface conditions and groundwater to provide shallow foundation and site-prep recommendations, including two SPT borings (45 ft and 30 ft) and laboratory testing. Subsurface soils consist of fine sands over silty sands, transitioning to very dense sands with silt/gravel at depth; groundwater was observed ~13.75–14 ft below grade.

NicNevol Responsibilities

  • Conducting SPT borings (45 ft and 30 ft) with CME-55 rig and logging soils.
  • Collecting and analyzing samples for classification and moisture/fines content.
  • Evaluating groundwater depth and seasonal variation.
  • Providing foundation and site preparation recommendations.
  • Preparing compaction & structural fill guidelines for construction.

Project Highlights

  • Subsurface profile: fine sands (0–15 ft), silty sands (15–30 ft), very dense sands with silt/gravel below 30 ft.
  • Groundwater encountered ~13.75–14 ft below grade.
  • Recommended shallow spread footings at ≥2 ft depth on compacted soils or structural fill.
  • Design allowable bearing capacity ≈ 2,500 psf; compaction to 95% Modified Proctor.
